Arizona's cost of living: What matters most to you?

Dear Friend,

From groceries and utilities to housing and insurance, everyday expenses continue to weigh on Arizona families. Whether you're raising children, planning for retirement, or running a small business, every dollar matters.

At the Arizona Legislature, House Republicans have made affordability a major priority.

During the 2026 legislative session, we advanced a budget package providing an estimated $1.43 billion in income tax relief over four years, including:

  • No state income tax on tips and overtime.
  • An increased standard deduction and Child Tax Credit.
  • New deductions for childcare expenses and retirement income for qualifying seniors.

We also pursued legislation addressing rising energy and utility costs.

Not every proposal became law. In January, Governor Hobbs vetoed SB1106, an earlier Republican tax relief package. In June, she vetoed HB2113, which would have required additional consumer representation in cases involving proposed residential utility rate increases of 100% or more.

These decisions illustrate ongoing disagreements over how Arizona should address affordability.

You can read more about our legislative work in the 2026 Arizona House Majority Report.

With early voting underway, I encourage you to consider which policies reflect your priorities and the needs of your family. Voting early gives you more flexibility and helps ensure that scheduling conflicts don't prevent your participation.

Early voting began October 7, and Election Day is November 3.

Your feedback helps identify the issues Arizona residents are facing. Thank you for staying informed and engaged.

Dear LD25 Friends, Last week, I wrote about housing affordability after our Legislative Town Hall at Arizona Western College. One of the points I made was simple: Arizona has a housing supply problem, and access to land is a big part of it. Now, new information from the Legislature's Joint Ad Hoc Committee on State Land Oversight shows why this conversation truly matters. BUCKLE UP! Arizona is currently short approximately 56,000 homes, while about 276,000 acres of potentially developable...

Dear LD25 Friends, This week, I had the opportunity to join fellow Yuma-area legislators at Arizona Western College's Legislative Town Hall for about 90 minutes of questions and conversation about the issues affecting our communities. It was incredible and I always look forward to these. We covered a lot of ground... water, housing affordability, education, workforce challenges, childcare, technology, state trust lands, and more. These conversations matter because good policy starts with...
