Leadership, Accountability, and School Choice

Dear Friends,

As Majority Leader of the Arizona House, my focus over the past two weeks has been on preparing our caucus for the work ahead while continuing to speak out on issues that directly impact Arizona families.

Leadership does not pause between legislative sessions; it requires engagement, accountability, and a willingness to address challenges as they arise.

School Walkouts and Teacher Absences

Recently, families across Arizona were given a real-world lesson in why school choice matters. Dozens of public-school districts and campuses abruptly closed their doors due to coordinated teacher sickouts and student walkouts tied to political protests.

Parents were blindsided, students lost valuable classroom time, and families were forced to rearrange work and childcare on the fly.

Meanwhile, charter schools and private schools remained open and teaching.

When district schools shut down without warning, public trust is broken. It sends a clear message that activism is being prioritized over students’ education. These actions are disheartening and unacceptable. They help explain why district school performance continues to decline.

At the same time, they reinforce an important truth: Arizona’s school choice policies work. When families are given real options, students win every time. That is why I will continue to defend parental rights and support policies that put students, not politics, first.

Leadership with Accountability

Beyond education, I remain actively engaged with House leadership as we have entered the second session of the 57th Legislature with full force and both feet on the ground.

Alongside Speaker Steve Montenegro and our leadership team, we are focused on fiscal responsibility, public safety, housing affordability, water security, and ensuring state government remains transparent and accountable to the people it serves.

I have also continued to speak out on the need for stronger accountability within state government. Arizonans deserve leadership that respects taxpayers, upholds the law, and delivers results... not excuses.

When those standards fall short, it is our responsibility to address them directly.

As always, I am grateful for the continued engagement and feedback from constituents across the state.

Your voices shape the work we do, and I remain committed to listening, leading, and delivering results that protect Arizona’s values and future.

Thank you for your trust and support.

I look forward to keeping you informed as we move closer to the start of the legislative session and the important work ahead.

Best regards,

Representative Michael Carbone

Dear Friends, Crossover week is one of the most important deadlines of the legislative session. It is the point when House bills must be heard and voted on before moving to the Senate. If a bill does not pass by that deadline, it is effectively finished for the year. This year, crossover required long days and disciplined focus. Our goal was simple: move substantive legislation forward so it can continue through the process and deliver results for Arizona families. Unfortunately, during...

Dear friends, As we move deeper into the legislative session, my focus remains on one core principle: Arizona families deserve clarity, stability, and responsible leadership. Whether it is tax season, rising costs, or long-term energy security, government should make life easier for families and small businesses, not more complicated. Tax Certainty During Filing Season Tax filing season is now well underway, and Arizonans should not be caught in the middle of shifting rules. Governor Hobbs’...
