Legislative Update: Housing, Budget Negotiations, and Recognizing Arizona Leaders

Dear LD25 Friends,

The work at the AZ State Capitol continues to move quickly as we focus on the issues that matter most to Arizona families. From budget negotiations to housing affordability and recognizing leaders making a difference in our communities, House Republicans remain committed to advancing practical solutions that strengthen Arizona’s future.

It can feel sometimes that the work is never done. That's because we never settle. We never cave. We never relent. It's important for you to know that we are always looking for ways to shrink our government while we keep it sustainable as we make improvements in modernization and streamlining our processes.

Addressing Housing Affordability and Homelessness

Last week Wednesday, I had the opportunity to speak with Arizona’s housing coalition about the rising cost of housing and the growing challenges surrounding homelessness.

These are complex issues affecting families and communities across our state, and I appreciated the thoughtful conversation on solutions that promote affordability, accountability, and long-term stability for Arizonans.

We are very aware that Arizona, like the rest of the country, is vulnerable to this problem. Housing costs continue to impact working families, seniors, and young people trying to purchase their first home and we are working on fixing it.

At the Legislature, we are continuing to explore ways to increase housing supply, reduce unnecessary regulatory barriers, and encourage responsible development that keeps Arizona affordable while protecting the quality of life that makes our state special.

State Budget Negotiations Continue

Budget negotiations also remain a major focus at the Capitol. They have been wild this session (and that might be an understatement). House Republicans continue working toward common sense results. We want a fiscally responsible budget that respects taxpayers while funding the essential services Arizona families depend on.

Our approach remains centered on lowering costs, protecting public safety, supporting vulnerable populations, and ensuring government lives within its means. We believe Arizona can maintain strong services without unnecessary spending increases or burdens on taxpayers.

Although Governor Hobbs vetoed the initial House Republican budget proposal, discussions are ongoing, and we remain committed to finding a path forward that strengthens Arizona’s economy and protects long-term financial stability for our state. We've got you, Arizona!

Recognizing Outstanding Leadership in Arizona

Last week also provided an opportunity to recognize individuals who continue making a positive impact across Arizona.

Leadership, service, and community involvement are critical to keeping our state strong, and it is always encouraging to celebrate those who dedicate their time and efforts to improving the lives of others.

As always, thank you for staying engaged and informed. Your input and involvement help guide the work we do every day at the Capitol. I remain committed to fighting for policies that strengthen Arizona families, protect taxpayers, and ensure our state continues moving in the right direction.

Sincerely,
Michael Carbone
